Bruce

Back in February, I wrote about a dilemma about choosing which photo to run with a story about Bruce Artrip, an Ohio man diagnosed with severe Leukemia.
This morning the answer became painfully clear to me.
The correct action is to use the photo that will do the most good at that particular time. Run the stoic faced man when it can help raise funds for medical expenses and run the picture of him smiling and happy when people need it most.

Bruce Artrip died Wednesday, May 21 of complications from a bone marrow transplant. In February, Bruce Artrip said coping with a terminal illness changed his perspective on life. "Time with my family means more now," he said. "The sky is more blue now, and you recognize the small things that you might have taken for granted."
God bless him.

We did run the photo of him smiling on the front page following his death. And as cliche as this is, that is the way he would have wanted it. Great photos and I'm sure his family thanks you.
