Jamie Farr LPGA – The Photos

Posted in Photos at 9:15 am by photodan

The little op/ed piece that preceded this post was actually written for the UT News. (God help us all, they let me play with words and pictures.) Our fantastic editor, Vicki Kroll, convinced me to get off my literary butt and string a couple syllables together so now you, my loyal reader, know who to blame.

Ok, enough with the words stuff. On with the photographs!

“What was I thinking?” That question kept recurring every few minutes as I was in my fourth day of covering the 2006 Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic golf tournament for the Associated Press.

More fireworks… sorta

In honor of the minor league All-Star game the city of Toledo put on a fireworks extravaganza (photodan.net…bringing 25-cent words like that one to you) called “Thunder Over Toledo.” The event was billed to be the most powerful pyrotechnic display in northwest Ohio and it may have been. Too bad most people couldn’t see a large portion of it.

I was headed out to see Toledo’s fireworks display with a friend and I thought it’d be a good chance to try out my homemade camera plate since I didn’t want the hassle of carrying a tripod. I hoped there would be something to support the plate (a handy wood post in this case) but I would have settled for the ground in a pinch.

The Bogen 3-D head I had on the plate worked brilliantly. When the fireworks ended up being much farther to the right than I hoped, it was easy to readjust and keep shooting. I didn’t actually plan on including the couple in the foreground but I really like the human element it adds. I guess that’s why they call it a “happy accident.”

“…all flowers keep the light”

The university is going to be putting a calendar together for the Maumee Valley Growers Association and I’ve been tasked with shooting photos for it. I’m actually pretty excited about doing a calendar since I’ve never had the opportunity before so here are a few shots from the first couple of greenhouses I’ve visited.
