New Tower View
Because I’m so behind on posting, I’ll occasionally put some slightly dated pictures up. (like this)
The director of marketing and communications, aka my boss, wanted a new aerial beauty shot of University Hall and not being one to argue when someone else wants to pay for me to take a helicopter ride, I quickly agreed to shoot one.
If only the weather was in on the plan.
Apparently Autumn in northwest Ohio is a breeding ground for partly cloudy forecasts. After one flight that produced fantastic color photos (well, in very small isolated spots anyway) it was obvious I’d have to try again… for the next 2.5 weeks. Every day was the same cycle of: check the weather, call the chopper rental to schedule the flight, call the chopper place again to cancel after clouds immediately move in. Both calls were usually made within an hour of each other. Damn Ohio weather.
After much phone calling, panicking, worrying and shaking my fists to the skies yelling, “WHY GOD, WHY HATH THOU FORSAKEN ME?!?” (I always use words like hath and thou… my sister told me it’s what all the cool kids do), everything finally came together to produce the photo you see below. It was just in the nick of time too. Three days later, a storm blew *all* the leaves from the trees.

University Hall rises from the brilliant Autumn colors of the Old Orchard area of Toledo, Ohio in late 2005. (Daniel Miller/University of Toledo)

wow, I haven’t been to your site in a while. It’s new and looks really good. Especially this picture.
plane or helicopter? Or hot-air balloon?

Just like a photographer, I looked at the picture…commented…and then read the story.
Again, nice shot.
